It would be nice if artwork progressed in a straight line (preferably up a ramp). While working on the Catskill watercolors, I digressed and did 30, or so, small watercolors of dogs. Painting dogs, just sitting there like little heros, integrated and detached from their backgrounds was a way for me to include disparate themes that I hadn't been able to deal with otherwise. The dogs were a way of representing pure feeling in painting.
